Responsibilities:
Mission Projects and Benevolences
- Involve more church family members in outreach activities
- Reduce hunger in the Corning area through the Backpack Program (Food Bank of the Southern Tier), the Community Garden, CROP Walk, Salvation Army
- Improve housing security in the community through Habitat for Humanity, creating a volunteer “repair corps” and/or tool lending program
- Promote human rights worldwide through using fair trade coffee, selling Equal Exchange items, holding a mission fair, supporting the Heifer Project, sponsoring refugees
Evaluate and develop new mission projects
- Collaborate with other churches and groups to enhance impact, such as veteran’s groups, social impact organizations, etc.
- Balance new and continuing mission projects to sustain energy
- Mission Trips – plan and/or join other churches on mission trips such as a family camping outing, multi-generational mission trip, etc.
Share news of our outreach activities
- Communicate project impact to the congregation through Caller articles, announcements during worship, guest speakers, etc.
- Send press releases to local media and maintain a presence on social media
- Announce activities using the church’s internal communication tools
- Stay connected with other area churches and religious organizations
- Participate in or communicate with community-wide ministry groups
- Send regular print and electronic communications to other churches
Financial Responsibilities
- Submit annual funding requests to the budget each year (including OCWM)
- Encourage participation in Five for Five giving
- Allocate benevolences for the sum established in the church’s annual budget, if any, and determine the process by which funds will be allocated
- Use the Endowment Interest Fund for outreach purposes
- Work with Faith Formation on children's giving methods and projects
